Product description
What is DDGS? Definition: DDGS (Dried Distillers Grains with Solubles) is a co-product of ethanol production, mainly from corn. After starch is fermented into ethanol and CO₂, the remaining nutrients (protein, fat, minerals, vitamins) are concentrated and dried, forming DDGS — a valuable feed ingredient. 🌾 Production Process Corn is ground into coarse meal. Mixed with water and enzymes to convert starch into sugar. Fermented with yeast → ethanol + CO₂. Distilled to separate ethanol. Distillers grains are filtered/centrifuged. Dried to produce DDG; if condensed solubles (CDS) are added before drying, the product becomes DDGS. 🧬 Nutritional Composition Crude Protein: 26–30% Crude Fat: 8–10% Crude Fiber: 7–9% Minerals: High phosphorus & potassium, low calcium Rich in B vitamins and vitamin E 🐓 Applications in Animal Nutrition Poultry: Good source of linoleic acid and methionine (important for feather growth). Low in lysine → supplementation required. Swine: Provides energy, protein, and phosphorus. Fiber limits use in finishing diets. Ruminants (dairy & beef cattle): Excellent for rumen health, bypass protein, and energy from fiber. Improves palatability and mineral supply. Aquaculture: Rarely used due to fiber and nutrient profile. 📦 Advantages Cheaper than soybean meal or fish meal. Provides protein, energy, and minerals. Eco-friendly by-product of ethanol industry. ⚠️ Limitations Low lysine and tryptophan → supplementation needed. High fiber → less suitable for poultry and finishing pigs. Lower energy value compared to ground corn.
